FAQ’S

Morpheus 8 is a state-of-the-art, non-surgical, and non-invasive treatment available at Romsey Medical Practice, designed to address common skin concerns like wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin. Led by Dr Rachel Tunney, this treatment combines the power of radiofrequency energy with microneedling to stimulate the deeper layers of the skin, promoting the production of collagen and elastin – two essential proteins responsible for skin strength, elasticity, and a youthful appearance.

The procedure involves using a specialised handpiece equipped with tiny needles, typically ranging from 12 to 40 in number, depending on the area being treated. Once the needles are gently inserted into the skin, they deliver radiofrequency energy to the dermal layers. This process creates controlled, microscopic tissue trauma, triggering the skin’s natural healing process. The heat from the radiofrequency energy further stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin fibres, promoting skin rejuvenation from the inside out.

One of the key advantages of Morpheus 8 is its ability to penetrate the skin at varying depths, making it customisable for different skin concerns and areas of the face or body. The result is smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking skin without surgery or extensive downtime.

Morpheus 8 is highly effective for treating common signs of ageing, including fine lines, wrinkles, sagging skin, and uneven texture, and it can be used on both the face and body. With minimal discomfort and no need for invasive procedures, it’s an ideal solution for those seeking a rejuvenated appearance with little to no recovery time.

YOUR CONSULTATION AND TREATMENT

Before Your Treatment

After your medical consultation at Romsey Medical Practice, we will provide you with pre-appointment advice to ensure optimal results from your treatment.

For the best outcome, we recommend discontinuing harsh exfoliating treatments and potent active ingredients (such as retinoids and exfoliants) for 2-3 days before your appointment.

We kindly ask that you arrive without makeup, as residual makeup on the skin can increase the risk of infection.

During your visit, photographs will be taken for your medical records, and we will take your consent to proceed with the procedure.

Your appointment will take approximately 2 hours, including time for numbing and treatment, but we recommend allowing extra time to ensure a relaxed experience. Our comfortable waiting area is available for you to enjoy before or after your treatment.

There will always be an opportunity to ask any questions, and we won’t begin the treatment until you are completely comfortable and happy with everything.

During Your Treatment

Following the removal of the numbing cream, we will thoroughly cleanse your skin to reduce the risk of infection.

The treatment typically begins on the lower cheeks and works across the entire face, or from the lower face to the neck, depending on the area being treated. For areas around the eyes, we use a smaller tip with fewer needles to ensure comfort and to treat as much of the area as possible.

The procedure usually lasts between 30-45 minutes, depending on the treatment area. Afterward, we will cleanse the skin again and apply a cooling spritz of Clinisept spray for added comfort.

If needed, you may also opt for local anaesthetic injections, which will be fully explained during your consultation.

After Your Treatment

After your Morpheus 8 treatment, some redness may occur, typically lasting up to three days, although most patients experience it settling sooner.

It’s normal for the skin to feel rough to the touch and may flake slightly as part of the exfoliating process. Avoid picking or pulling off any flakes, as this can interfere with the healing process.

After 5-7 days, you can safely resume your usual skincare routine, including the use of active ingredients. It’s important to continue wearing sunscreen daily to protect your skin and maintain optimal results following your treatment.

You can get in touch with us at Romsey Medical Practice at any point of your treatment journey if you have worries or concerns.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Am I suitable for Morpheus 8 treatment?

Morpheus 8 is suitable for people of all ages and skin types, making it a versatile and safe option for a wide range of concerns. Whether you’re looking to tighten loose skin, smooth wrinkles, or improve skin texture, Morpheus 8 can provide noticeable results.

As the skin begins to lose collagen with age, particularly after the age of 30, treatments like Morpheus 8 can effectively address these issues and help maintain a youthful, refreshed appearance.

While Morpheus 8 is a highly effective non-invasive treatment, it is important to note that it cannot provide the same results as surgery. If you’re seeking more dramatic changes or have significant skin laxity, we may recommend speaking to a plastic surgeon. However, for those with early to moderate signs of ageing, Morpheus 8 may offer a solution to restore smoother, firmer, and more youthful skin without the need for surgery.

What can I expect after my Morpheus 8 treatment?

After your Morpheus 8 treatment, it’s common to experience temporary redness, swelling, and bruising in the treated areas. These side effects are typically mild and will subside within a few days. Some discomfort may also occur, but it can usually be alleviated with over-the-counter pain medication.

To achieve the best results from your Morpheus 8 treatment, it’s crucial to follow your doctor’s aftercare instructions. This will help ensure the healing process goes smoothly and that you get the most out of your skin rejuvenation.

Post-treatment Care:

    • Avoid direct sun exposure for 24-28 hours to protect your skin from UV damage.
    • Avoid extreme temperatures, including hot showers and saunas, during the initial healing period.

By following these simple aftercare steps, you can help reduce the risk of complications and enhance the results of your Morpheus 8 treatment. For more information or personalised advice, don’t hesitate to reach out to Dr Rachel Tunney at Romsey Medical Practice.

I’ve heard that Morpheus 8 treatments are really painful, is that true?

Dr Rachel Tunney’s extensive background as an anaesthetist, including experience with nerve blocks, she is uniquely equipped to manage any discomfort during your Morpheus 8 treatment.

To ensure your experience is as comfortable as possible, we use strong topical anaesthetic creams and, in some cases, local anaesthetic nerve blocks.

While we can’t eliminate all sensation, the treatment is generally very tolerable. Some patients feel a temporary warmth or heat, but this sensation quickly fades as soon as the probe is removed.

Rest assured, you’ll be in safe hands and well-cared for throughout the entire procedure.

What are the risks of Morpheus 8?

Morpheus 8 is a safe and effective non-surgical treatment, but like all procedures, it comes with some potential risks. These may include:

    • Temporary redness, swelling, and bruising: These side effects are common after the procedure and typically resolve within a few days.
    • Discomfort: Some patients may experience mild discomfort during and after the treatment, but this is usually temporary and manageable with over-the-counter pain medication.
    • Skin irritation: In some cases, the treated area may feel irritated, but this usually subsides with proper aftercare.
    • Burns: Although extremely rare, burns may occur due to excessive heat exposure during the procedure.
    • Pigmentation changes: Some individuals may notice changes in pigmentation, either hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation.
    • Scarring: While uncommon, scarring can occur, particularly if aftercare instructions are not followed properly.

Dr Rachel Tunney uses more conservative energy levels and an increased number of pulses during Morpheus 8 treatments – a technique that ensures effective results while minimising risk. Dr Tunney’s in-depth understanding of the Morpheus 8 device and its settings allows her to provide a safe and tailored experience for each patient.
