Forma is a non-surgical, non-invasive procedure that uses radiofrequency energy to heat the deeper layers of the skin. This heat stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, two proteins that give skin strength and elasticity. As a result, Forma radiofrequency treatment can help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin.

The Forma radiofrequency device uses a handpiece that is applied to the skin. The handpiece emits radiofrequency energy, which heats the deeper layers of the skin. The heat causes the collagen and elastin fibres to contract, immediately tightening the skin. In addition, the heat also stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin, which helps improve the skin’s overall appearance over time.

Forma offers several benefits, including:

  • Reduced appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin
  • Tighter, more youthful-looking skin
  • Increased collagen and elastin production
  • No downtime
  • No numbing is required, and no discomfort
  • Safe and effective

We recommend an initial course of six treatments. This is designed to produce the best results. The treatments are spaced one to two weeks apart to allow the skin time to heal and to see the full effects of the treatment. Following this, further treatments can be used to maintain the results of the initial course of treatment. The maintenance protocol typically involves fewer treatments spaced further apart.

Forma can be used following a course of Morpheus 8 treatments to maintain results, and it can also be added to a Hydrafacial treatment.

Before your treatment

After your medical consultation, we will discuss some pre-appointment advice that will help ensure the best possible results for your treatment.

It is best to avoid sun exposure, harsh exfoliating treatments and potent active ingredients (retinoids and exfoliants) for 2-3 days before your treatment.

We prefer if you can arrive without make-up on your skin.

During your treatment

We begin by thoroughly cleansing your skin and applying a clear gel. This is to allow the handpiece to glide easily over your skin.

The handpiece will start to feel warm as it moves across your skin. We will closely monitor your response and the energy levels used to ensure you are getting the most effective, comfortable and safe treatment.

Each quadrant of the face will be treated for 10 minutes once the desired temperature has been reached.

Once the treatment has finished, we remove the excess gel and apply a moisturiser and sunscreen.

After your treatment

There is no downtime following a Forma treatment, but ensuring that you protect your skin from the sun with a good sunscreen can help.

We don’t recommend trying to cool your skin down after the treatment, as the heat in the skin is part of the process required to stimulate more collagen production.

You can continue using your regular skincare products that day.

Hydrafacial with Forma

Who is a good candidate for Forma treatment?

Forma is a good option for people looking for a non-surgical way to improve the appearance of their skin. The treatment is generally safe and effective for people of all ages, but it is most beneficial for people starting to see the signs of ageing, such as wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin.

What can I expect after Forma treatment?

After the Forma  treatment, you may experience temporary redness, swelling, and bruising. These side effects are usually mild and go away within a few days. You may also experience some discomfort, which can be relieved with over-the-counter pain medication.

It is essential to follow your doctor’s instructions after your Forma treatment. For example, you may be instructed to avoid sun exposure and to use sunscreen. You should also avoid strenuous activity for 24 hours after the treatment.

How is Forma different to Morpheus 8?

The main difference is that Morpheus 8 uses tiny microneedles to pierce the skin, and once in the skin, it delivers radiofrequency energy.

Forma only uses radiofrequency energy applied to the skin without needles.

Both treatments are suitable for skin tightening, but Morpheus 8 is more intense and will deliver greater results in a shorter period of time.

Forma may be better suited for those who want no downtime at all, or for treatments close to an event or wedding.

Does the treatment hurt?

Most people describe Forma treatment as incredibly relaxing and comfortable, like having a hot stone massage on the face.

On occasion, small areas of skin can become excessively warm. However, the device monitors the temperature of the skin very closely and alerts the practitioner if temperatures are exceeded. This means it will not burn you or make you feel uncomfortable.
