FAQ’S

Collagen and elastin are essential proteins that make up the support network in the dermis (the second layer of skin). These proteins keep our skin firm, smooth, and youthful.

However, as we age, our body’s natural collagen and elastin production decreases, leading to thinner skin and wrinkles. From around the age of 30, we lose about 1% of our collagen each year, and this loss accelerates with factors like excessive sun exposure, smoking, and poor diet.

For women, around 30% of collagen is lost during the first five years after menopause.

Profhilo is an injectable skin booster containing pure, highly concentrated hyaluronic acid. It works in two key ways to rejuvenate the skin:

    • Hydration Boost: Profhilo immediately increases skin hydration by attracting and holding water, giving your skin a plump and radiant appearance.
    • Collagen and Elastin Stimulation: Profhilo stimulates skin cells to produce more collagen and elastin, which helps rebuild the skin’s support structure for a smoother, more youthful look.

Unlike traditional dermal fillers, Profhilo doesn’t aim to reshape the face, it is a skin quality improvement treatment.

If you’re looking for a safe and effective treatment to combat signs of ageing, boost hydration, and improve your skin’s overall texture and quality, Profhilo could be the ideal solution. Contact Romsey Medical Practice today to book your consultation with Dr Rachel Tunney and start your journey towards revitalised skin.

YOUR CONSULTATION AND TREATMENT

Before Your Treatment

Following your medical consultation, we will provide pre-appointment guidance to help achieve the best possible results from your treatment.

We kindly ask that you arrive without makeup, as residual makeup on the skin can increase the risk of infection.

The treatment typically takes 20-30 minutes, but we recommend allowing extra time for your appointment to ensure a relaxed experience. Feel free to enjoy our comfortable waiting area before or after your treatment.

During Your Treatment

Before your Profhilo treatment, we thoroughly clean your skin to reduce the risk of infection.

We use tiny needles to administer Profhilo injections, which significantly reduces discomfort. Most patients find that numbing is not necessary, but if preferred, we can provide numbing for additional comfort.

Profhilo is injected superficially, with five injection points on each side of the face, known as Bio Aesthetic Points (BAP). These points ensure the product spreads evenly across the skin, delivering the best possible results.

As the Profhilo is injected, you may feel a brief stinging sensation. This discomfort is minimal and typically lasts only 5-10 seconds, disappearing quickly after the injection is complete.

The injections may cause small, temporary bumps on the skin, which usually resolve quickly. Once the treatment is complete, we cleanse your skin again and apply a soothing and moisturising aftercare balm to enhance the skin’s recovery and hydration.

After Your Treatment

The simple aftercare we advise to help minimise side effects and ensure the best results:

    • Avoid heavy exercise, hot showers, saunas, and steam rooms for 24 hours to reduce the risk of swelling and bruising.
    • Keep the treated area clean to minimise the risk of infection.
    • The time to optimum results varies from person to person. Many people mention that they see improvements in their skin within a few days; however, sometimes, it can take a few weeks.
    • At Romsey Medical Practice, you can get in touch at any point of your treatment journey if you have worries or concerns.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Am I suitable for Profhilo treatments?

Profhilo is ideal for individuals who are looking to improve skin hydration, elasticity, and overall skin quality. During your consultation, we will assess your medical history to ensure you are both medically and psychologically suitable for the procedure.

You should avoid Profhilo if:

  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You have a history of allergy to hyaluronic acid.
  • You have an active skin infection (e.g., acne, cold sores) or skin disease near the injection site.
  • You are immunocompromised or have a bleeding disorder.

We’ll address these considerations and your individual concerns during your consultation to ensure Profhilo is the right choice for you.

Does Profhilo treatment hurt?

During your Profhilo treatment, we use small needles, which significantly reduce discomfort. While the injection may cause a brief stinging or pressure sensation, it lasts only a few seconds.

Most procedures are completed in 15-20 minutes.

If you’re concerned about pain, topical anaesthesia or ice packs can be applied to numb the area. We’ll discuss your comfort options during your consultation.

How long does Profhilo last?

Although Profhilo is broken down by the body within 28 days, its effects can last several months.

Most patients choose to have a repeat treatment around four to six months after their first session, though this varies depending on the individual’s skin and lifestyle.

A tailored treatment plan will help you maintain results in the long term.

When will I start seeing the results of Profhilo?

You may begin to notice some initial improvements in your skin within a few days after your first treatment, though this can vary from person to person. However, the most noticeable and lasting results usually start to become visible around 4 weeks after your second treatment.

The results are subtle at first but continue to improve progressively with each session. For optimal results, it’s recommended to include Profhilo as a regular part of your in-clinic treatment plan.

Can I have other treatments at the same time as Profhilo?

It is sometimes possible to have other aesthetic treatments, such as anti-wrinkle injections, during the same visit as your Profhilo. However, it’s usually recommended that anti-wrinkle injections are done two weeks before or after Profhilo to allow for optimal results.

Dermal fillers can be done at least two weeks after Profhilo. Since each treatment uses different techniques, combining them at the correct intervals ensures you get the best outcomes.

Combining treatments, such as Hydrafacial with Profhilo, can help prepare the skin by deeply cleansing and hydrating before your injectable treatment.

A detailed treatment plan will be discussed during your consultation.

What is the downtime after Profhilo?

After your Profhilo treatment, it’s common to experience swelling at the injection sites, which may look like small bumps.

This is temporary and should reduce within a few hours as the product spreads under your skin.

There is no need to massage the treated area. The product is very runny, and it will disperse in the skin over 24-48 hours. If the swelling persists or you have any concerns, Dr Tunney will be happy to review you in the clinic.

What product do you use?

Romsey Medical Practice only uses Profhilo, Profhilo Body and Profhilo Structura products sourced from an approved pharmacy. This ensures that the product is authentic and meets the highest standards of quality. Profhilo is clinically proven to provide long-lasting skin rejuvenation results.
