FAQ’S

At Romsey Medical Practice, Dr Rachel Tunney uses a cutting-edge polynucleotide treatment to enhance your skin’s natural regeneration and overall quality.

Polynucleotides are naturally occurring molecules, derived from trout or salmon sperm, that play a vital role in cellular repair and tissue regeneration. When injected into the skin, these molecules work by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, two essential proteins that provide structure, firmness, and elasticity to the skin. This helps to repair and regenerate damaged tissues, improve skin texture, and promote a more youthful, radiant complexion.

We use Plinest polynucleotides, by Mastelli, and they are especially effective in treating areas of the face where the skin may have thinned or aged, such as under the eyes (to address puffiness, dark circles, and skin laxity), the neck, décolletage, hands, arms, inner thighs, and even knee areas. It also serves as an excellent complement to other treatments, such as Morpheus8, to further enhance skin rejuvenation.

If you’re looking for an effective, minimally invasive solution to restore the vitality of your skin and fight the visible effects of ageing, Plinest polynucleotide treatment could be the perfect option for you. Dr Tunney is an expert in tailoring each treatment to your unique skin needs, ensuring you achieve the most natural, long-lasting results.

YOUR CONSULTATION AND TREATMENT

Before Your Treatment

Following your medical consultation, we will provide pre-appointment guidance to help achieve the best possible results from your treatment.

We kindly ask that you arrive without makeup, as residual makeup on the skin can increase the risk of infection.

We apply topical numbing cream to the treatment area for 20-30 minutes prior to treatment, to make the process as comfortable as possible for you.

The treatment typically takes 20-30 minutes, but we recommend allowing extra time for your appointment to ensure a relaxed experience. Feel free to enjoy our comfortable waiting area before or after your treatment.

During Your Treatment

The treatment begins with a thorough cleansing of your skin, followed by precise marking of the treatment area. We use the smallest needles available and sometimes cannulas (blunt-tipped, flexible needles), ensuring the process is comfortable for most patients.

You may feel a warm or stinging sensation when the polynucleotide product is injected. This is short-lived and does not continue once the injection has ended.

The injections may create tiny bumps on the skin, which typically subside within 24-48 hours. After the procedure, we cleanse your skin and apply a soothing, moisturising aftercare balm to promote healing and comfort.

After Your Treatment

The simple aftercare we advise to help minimise side effects and ensure the best results:

    • Avoid heavy exercise, hot showers, saunas, and steam rooms for 24 hours to reduce the risk of swelling and bruising.
    • Keep the treated area clean to minimise the risk of infection.
    • At Romsey Medical Practice, you can get in touch at any point of your treatment journey if you have worries or concerns.

        FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What areas can be treated with polynucleotides?

Polynucleotide treatments, such as Plinest by Mastelli, are highly versatile and can rejuvenate various areas of the face and body. Common treatment areas include:

        • Undereye Rejuvenation: To target puffiness, dark circles, and skin laxity, improving the overall appearance of the delicate under-eye area.
        • Perioral Lines: Also known as smile lines or wrinkles around the mouth, polynucleotides help reduce the appearance of fine lines and restore youthful skin texture.
        • Neck Lines: Known as ‘tech neck’ or ‘necklace lines,’ polynucleotides can smooth out fine lines and tighten loose skin on the neck.
        • Scalp for Thinning Hair: Polynucleotides stimulate collagen production and improve scalp health, offering a solution for those struggling with thinning or sparse hair.

While these areas are most commonly treated, polynucleotides can be used virtually anywhere on the body to rejuvenate the skin. The treatment process is similar across different areas, making it a flexible and effective solution for skin regeneration and rejuvenation.

Where does the polynucleotide product come from?

Plinest is derived from the DNA of fish, a byproduct of the food farming industry. The DNA is carefully extracted from fish, and the fish are raised in highly controlled environments where their health is meticulously monitored to avoid any risk of viruses, bacteria, or stress. The DNA fragments are then purified to remove any allergenic material. This ensures the product’s safety and purity.

What can polynucleotides do for my skin?

          • Stimulates collagen production: Polynucleotides help stimulate the production of collagen, which is vital for skin strength, structure, and elasticity. Increased collagen reduces fine lines and improves overall skin texture.
          • Enhances skin hydration: Polynucleotides attract moisture, ensuring deep hydration and a smoother, plumper appearance. This helps to counteract dryness and dullness.
          • Improves skin elasticity: Polynucleotides improve the skin’s elasticity by supporting the regeneration of elastin, helping it bounce back from stretching and making it look firmer.
          • Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles: As collagen production increases and skin elasticity improves, fine lines and wrinkles are visibly reduced, especially in undereye and perioral lines.
          • Triggers skin repair mechanisms: Polynucleotides help repair damaged skin by promoting tissue regeneration and accelerating healing processes, making them a good way of addressing scars and skin damage.
          • Brightens skin tone: By improving skin hydration and collagen production, polynucleotides help even out skin tone, reducing hyperpigmentation and promoting a more radiant, glowing complexion.
          • Restores skin thickness and strength: Skin can become thinner and more fragile as we age. Polynucleotides help restore the thickness and integrity of the skin, giving it a more youthful and robust feel.
          • Targets thinning hair: Polynucleotides can also be used on the scalp to rejuvenate hair follicles and promote thicker, healthier hair growth, making them an excellent addition for those experiencing thinning hair.

These benefits make polynucleotides a versatile and powerful tool for skin rejuvenation, whether treating fine lines, improving hydration, or boosting overall skin health.

Do I have to have a consultation before polynucleotide treatment?

Yes, a consultation is recommended for all injectable treatments, to ensure the treatment is both safe and appropriate for you.

The consultation also allows us to create a tailored treatment plan to effectively address your concerns and achieve the best possible results.

How many polynucleotide treatments do I need?

The number of polynucleotide treatments depends on the area being treated and your skin’s individual needs.

Typically, 3-4 treatments are recommended, spaced around 3-4 weeks apart.

Maintenance treatments may be needed every 4-6 months to maintain long-lasting results. This is usually just one single treatment, although Dr Tunney can suggest suitable timings of treatments and maintenance at your consultstion.
